Un'occhiata al Mercatino di Castel San Giovanni

In quasi 25 anni di vita, al mercatino fotografico organizzato da Photo90 a Castel San Giovanni, graziosa cittadina a circa un quarto d'ora da Piacenza, è stato venduto praticamente di tutto.

E' vero che negli ultimi tempi, un po' per via del passaggio dalla tecnologia analogica a quella digitale, un po' per la crisi economica dilagante, un po' per il fatto che sono soprattutto coloro che hanno vissuto in prima persona la fotografia tradizionale a continuare ad essere appassionati dell'immagine argentica, le vendite vanno un po' a rilento; però questo non significa che qui non si continuino a trovare buone occasioni e pezzi rari.

Certo, a sentire i titolari dei banchetti, in un paio di giornate di mercatino, perché fino a non tante edizioni fa il mercatino era quasi una fiera, qui c'era da star tranquilli che l'incasso avrebbe dato parecchie soddisfazioni, mentre di questi tempi, se non si riesce a piazzare qualche pezzo pregiato, non ci si riesce neppure a rientrare dalle spese.

Molti espositori, specie coloro che arrivano dal Centro Italia, o dall'estero scelgono d'essere presenti a Castel San Giovanni, piuttosto che su altre piazze, perché questo mercatino è ancora molto conosciuto e ben frequentato.

Da un paio d'edizioni, le sale a disposizione dei venditori si sono ridotte da due ad una, cosa che può rendere difficile prenotare uno spazio per il proprio banchetto, a meno che non si sia degli abitué di queste zone.

Durante l'ultimo appuntamento del 14 settembre scorso, l'atmosfera generale non era più allegra come ai bei vecchi tempi ed è capitato che alcuni venditori, già nel primo pomeriggio abbiano deciso di smantellare tutta la loro mercanzia dai tavoli per caricarla sulle automobili e ripartire in direzione di casa.

Non si sa per quanto tempo si andrà avanti ancora, ma fino alla 50esima edizione, prevista per la primavera prossima, dovremmo riuscire ad ad arrivarci.

L'ingresso in sala era fissato a 4 euro, mentre il costo di un banchetto normale si aggirava intorno ai 90 euro, il cibo del bar non è il massimo, ma tanto nessuno va a questo mercatino per mangiare al bar, a meno che non si sia un espositore che non può muoversi molto, neppure per la pausa.

In zona invece, ci sono dei bei locali dove si possono assaporare le specialità della Val Tidone e dei taglieri di affettati piacentini da abbinare al Gutturnio, mentre tra i vini bianchi sono sicuramente da provare e da acquistare sul posto, talvolta anche nello stesso spazio dove si svolge il mercatino, l'Ortrugo ed il Malvasia.

Essendo arrivato all'area indoor dello Sporting Club dove si svolgeva la manifestazione con un largo anticipo, ho potuto visionare i vari banchetti prima che arrivassero i visitatori, non così numerosi come ci si sarebbe aspettato.

Sono rimasto immediatamente colpito da un raro accendino-fotocamera Echo 8, prodotto dalla Suzuki Optical Company of Japan tra il 1951 ed il 1956, si tratta di uno dei migliori compagni delle spie di quell'epoca che conservava la funzione di accendisigari, in modo da sviare l'attenzione degli interlocutori dal vero scopo per il quale era stato concepito, anche se c'è da scommettere che all'epoca era un accessorio conosciuto e desiderato da ogni spia, al di qua ed al di là della cortina di ferro.

Per una questione di riservatezza non vi farò il nome del venditore, anche perché tutto sommato sarete più interessati a sapere che alle ore 9,20, appena 20 minuti dopo l'orario d'apertura questo splendido esemplare era già stato acquistato da un anonimo acquirente che ha sborsato soltanto 900 Euro per accapparrarsi questo gioiellino. Non c'era scatola originale, né altri accessori.

Sull'onda dell'entusiasmo per i prezzi, tutto sommato abbordabili, mi sono lasciato andare anch'io all'acquisto di una fotocamera da spie e sono diventato il felice proprietario di una Minox B per un prezzo talmente onesto che mi vergogno di comunicarvelo.

Qui, l'amico Giancarlo D'Emilio propone un foglio intero di piastrine d'acciaio perforate al laser e rifinite a mano, in modo da togliere le sbavature della perforazione e garantire la misura dei fori in 3 diverse dimensioni.

Non stiamo parlando di una proposta commerciale particolarmente economica (circa 20 euro a piastrina), ma l'appassionato di stenoscopia saprà ben valutarla, magari comprando l'intera gamma di misure, in modo da poter effettuare la migliore ripresa con la giusta apertura di "diaframma".

Molti fotografi preferiscono tuttavia auto-prodursi i propri "buchi" ricorrendo ai vecchi fogli di carta spagnola, in modo da avere un lavoro meno preciso e dei fotogrammi, forse più sbavati e pieni di flare, ma con un aspetto più personale.

Sempre dal fotografo pistoiese possiamo trovare un raro dorso a scansione, pre Betterlight, che può essere usato solo in abbinamento ad un vecchio Macintosh 9600/233 che viene venduto insieme al dorso, batterie, cavi scsi, monitor, borsa, adattatore per Mamiya Rz 67 e tutto l'occorrente per poter effettuare scatti di altissima qualità.

In Italia, furono acquistati dei dorsi simili da musei ed enti nazionali che volevano documentare i propri beni in maniera molto accurata ed una resa del colore impeccabile.

Si tratta di un accessorio introvabile ed allo stesso tempo difficile da vendere, in quanto il dover ricorrere all'uso di computer di vecchie generazioni che adottano sistemi di trasmissione dei dati obsoleti e vecchi sistemi operativi, pone pur sempre degli interrogativi cui non sempre è facile dare una risposta, se non nei fatti.

Questo sistema mi affascina molto, ma credo che le tecnologie informatiche, di per se stesse non riescano ad offrire una continuità d'utilizzo soddisfacente per chi è abituato a ragionare prendendo a modello i cicli di vita dei prodotti meccanici e ottici ante fotografia digitale.

A look at the Castel San Giovanni Photographic Market

(Italian most important used market in this sector)

In almost 25 years of life, the photographic market organized by Photo90 in Castel San Giovanni, a charming town about a quarter of an hour from Piacenza, was sold practically everything.

It 's true that in recent times, a little because of the transition from analog to digital, a little to the deepening of the economic crisis, a bit because there isn't generational exchange enough to sobstitute the old silver image passionates with young people, the sales are a bit slow. However, this does not mean that here is not possible to find good deals and rare pieces.

Of course, to hear the owners of the tables, in a couple of market days, because until not so many editions ago the market was almost a fair, here it was easy to sell everything quiet well, while in these times, if you are unable to place any valuable piece, it could be difficult even manage to return from the fees.

Many exhibitors, especially those who come from Central Italy, or from abroad choose to be present in Castel San Giovanni, rather than in other places, because this market is still very popular and well attended.

Since a couple of editions, the rooms available to sellers have been reduced from two to one, which can make it difficult to reserve a space for your tables, unless you are an old goer of Castel San Giovanni.

During the last meeting of 14 September, the general atmosphere was not as merry as the good old days and it happened that some sellers already in the early afternoon they decided to dismantle all their merchandise from the tables to load it on cars and leave to go back home.

It is not known how long it will go on again, but until the 50th edition, scheduled for next spring, we should be able to get there.

The entrance to the hall was set at 4 euro, while the cost of a normal table was around 90 euro, the bar food is not the greatest, but so no one goes to this market to eat at the bar, unless it is a vendor that cannot move much, even for the break.

In the area instead, there are nice places where you can taste the specialties of the Val Tidone and platters of cold cuts from Piacenza to match Gutturnio, while white wines like Ortrugo and Malvasia are sure to try and buy on the spot, sometimes even in the same space where photographic market is held.

Having arrived to the indoor Sporting Club where the event took place well in advance, I was able to view the various tables of the expositors before the arrival of visitors, not so numerous as might have been expected.

I was immediately impressed by a rare lighter camera Echo-8, produced by Suzuki Optical Company of Japan between 1951 and 1956, it is one of the best companions of the spies of that era that retained the function of a cigarette lighter, so to divert attention from the real stakeholders of the purpose for which it was designed, though you can bet that at the time this was an accessory well known and desired by every spy, on this side and beyond the iron Curtain.

For reasons of confidentiality I will avoid to make you the name of the seller, because after all you will be more interested to know that at 9:20, just 20 minutes after the estimated time of opening this beautiful specimen had already been purchased by an anonymous buyer that has paid only 900 Euro for having in his hands this little gem. There was no original box or other accessories.

Moved by the enthusiasm for the affordable prices, I let myself go to purchase a spy camera too, so I have become the happy owner of a Minox B for a price so honest that I am ashamed to notify you.

Next year come and visit the 50th edition, it will be a good fun.

We're not talking about a business proposal particularly cheap (about 20 EUR per plate), but the pinhole enthusiast will know how to evaluate it, maybe buying the whole range of sizes, so you can make the best shot with the correct opening of "diaphragm. "

Many photographers hower prefer self-produced their "holes" by using the old sheets of Spanish paper, in order to have a less precise job, perhaps more smudged and full of flare, but with a more personal aspect.

In the third picture tere is something proposed by the photographer from Pistoia: a rare back, pre Betterlight, which can only be used in combination with an old Macintosh 9600/233 which is sold together with the scanning back, batteries, scsi cables, monitor, bag, adapter for Mamiya RZ 67 and everything you need to make shots of the highest quality.

In Italy, the Dicomed or Betterlight backs were purchased by museums and similar national entities who wanted to document their assets in a very accurate color rendition flawless.

These accessories are very difficult to find and at the same time they are also difficult to sell, as the need to resort to the use of computers of old-generation systems that take data transmission obsolete and older operating systems, still poses the questions which is not always easy give an answer, if not in fact.

This system fascinates me, but I believe that computers technology fails to provide a satisfactory continuity of use for those who are accustomed to reason in terms of life cycles of products that mechanical gears and optical accessory had at the pre-digital photography times.

In the last two pictures, two binoculars not to be missed: the Carl Zeiss 6x18 Telita of the 1920s, in a fabulous state of preservation and the even more rare and appreciated San Giorgio Mega 8,5X30 with a particularly wide field of view, compared to other binoculars with the same ratio of magnification. The hall where there is the photographic market
